Vera Zvonareva is a former world number two player, achieving that ranking in 2010 after reaching the finals of both the Wimbledon and US Open in the same year. She has won 12 WTA singles titles since turning pro at the age of 16 in 2000, and has also won a bronze medal in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Her career was marred by injuries in the succeeding years and she took some time away from the sport as she got married and had her first child. After two years, she came back and collected two WTA doubles titles as well as an ITF singles title. The Russian ace has been raising awareness on Rett Syndrome since 2008, partnering with the International Rett Syndrome Foundation and Rett Syndrome Europe.
