The Russian onslaught continues with Anna Chakvetadze, who was born in Moscow in 1987. The gorgeous player became the next Russian darling, and with her skill, won eight WTA singles titles and reached a career-best number five in the women’s rankings in 2007. That year would not end well, as Anna and her family fell victim to a brutal home robbery, in which her father was also beaten. She would recover from that, but not from the injuries that she suffered in the following years, including the back injury that forced her to prematurely end her career at the age of 26. She’s still very much involved with the sport, running her very own tennis school while also working as a sports commentator for Eurosport channel.
