Russia has steadily produced a stream of talented, and hot, tennis players over the years, and Maria Kirilenko is no exception. The Moscow-born athlete, one of the youngest winners of the junior tournaments at the Canadian Open and US Open, turned pro in 2001 and reached her highest ranking of 10th in the tour in 2013, winning 6 WTA singles titles along the way. She’s one of three tennis players featured in the “Volley of the Dolls” pictorial for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition in 2009, the others being Daniela Hantuchová and Tatiana Golovin. The former face of Adidas’ Stella McCartney tennis apparel did not officially retire from the sport, but has not played since 2015 when she first gave birth.
