It’s shocking and difficult to imagine how anyone else could play the titular role of Samantha other than Ms. Elizabeth Montgomery herself. No one else could adorably twitch her nose better than her. In reality, however, the producers behind the show initially had someone else planned. They wanted another leading lady for the part. Tammy Grimes was set to play her at first, but she turned the role down because of she doubted many of the main character’s motivations. In fact, writer and classic TV enthusiast, Herbie J. Pilato, shared with Fox News, “She felt like if the character had all this power, why doesn’t she cure all the ills of the world?” True, and it did work to Montgomery’s benefit.
