Urschel is a retired NFL offensive guard who played with the Baltimore Ravens. He graduated from Penn State University in only 3 years, and even became a mathematics professor there while pursuing his masters. He is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Mathematics, MIT. He decided to quit the NFL to pursue his doctorate in mathematics. This early retirement (26 years old) was attributed to the fact that the American Medical Association published a study showing that chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative disease, had been found in the brains of 110 out of 111 ex-NFL players examined by Boston University researchers. It seems this math genius figured out the odds were against him. Brains runs in his family, his mother was a lawyer, and his dad a surgeon. He scored a 43 on the Wonderlic test, but was disappointed with himself. Even geniuses don’t necessarily get the highest scores. A score is just a score afterall.
