Don’t leave any kind of valuables in your car as New Orleans is reported to be among the municipalities with the highest number of cars being stolen or burglarized.  Also, the reason behind the soaring property crime in New Orleans is the vehicle burglaries.  The data from the New Orleans Police Department indicates that these have increased more than 80% as of the middle of August this year compared to the same time last year, and that the number of vehicle burglaries is on track to exceed 6,800, which is more than the average annual total from the past five years.  One other thing to consider is that the number might even be higher, as the police sometimes group multiple burglaries in one report.  Since a lot of these happen in the French Quarter and the Central Business District, apply the same precaution even if you’re using valet parking at the hotel you’re staying in.
