If you are going to do a lot of drinking, and hydrating, which you should, make sure that your bladder is strong and can endure long lines to the bathrooms. You may notice a distinct smell when you pass through corners in the French Quarter, but don’t get tempted to pee in public as this can result to a fine or even get you arrested. Majority of the arrests made every year along the parade routes and in the French Quarter every Mardi Gras season is related to urinating in public. Make sure you spot the public bathrooms or porta-lets in advance as these are quite limited. If there’s none near you, you may need to purchase bathroom passes from bars and restaurants that sell them, since they only allow their paying customers to use them.
