Don’t Discuss Katrina

It may have happened almost 20 years ago, but don’t assume old wounds have healed and think that asking about Katrina would be an open topic for conversation with locals.  Katrina, the category 5 hurricane that hit Louisiana, among other states, in August of 2005, causing over $120 billion in damages and claiming almost 2,000 lives, hit the city of New Orleans the hardest, with over a thousand of the fatalities coming from the city alone.  It even sparked widespread criticisms on the government on how the tragedy was handled, leading to some politicians quitting their position.  Hopefully the city is better prepared for any kind of emergency moving forward.
