Australia is a huge landmass, and distances between places and cities are far apart. Driving may be more trouble than you imagine, especially for first-timers. Some drives go through arid lands or deserts, with hardly any amenities like gas stations or shops and cafes. Even more populated places can be a long drive. If you don’t want to take the plane, give yourself ample time to travel by land. Do your research as to what the best routes are, and if there are rest stops along the way. Adjust your schedules as well, because even if you arrive at the scheduled time, you may be too fatigued to do anything but sleep.
