There are quite a few of the 400,000 annual tourists who make it part of their bucket list to climb Uluru, or Ayers rock. It is the impressive red monolith featured on the internet, postcards, and magazines. It is undoubtedly one of Australia’s many wonders. It is not a difficult 348 meter climb, and the view from the top is quite phenomenal. However, there have been about 35 deaths through the years, mostly of heart attack. Also, there are areas you can climb, but the local Anangu people discourage tourists from climbing the rock. It has a spiritual significance to them, and climbing it is considered offensive and disrespectful. So if you are sensitive to the local tribes, put it on your not to do list. There are so many other things to do.
