Don’t Underestimate Songkran

The New Year festival of Songkran is held over five days in April. It is actually every 13th of April, but the government extended it from the 12th to the 16th. This is to allow citizens to travel home for the holiday. It is Thailand’s most famous festival. It is celebrated with water fights outdoors, so be prepared to get wet. Don’t get angry, take it with a smile when people wet you with water guns, or buckets of water…you can wet them back. Better if you have a raincoat on, that way you won’t have to change your attire so often. Tourists enjoy mixing it up with locals in this water-throwing festival. So, enjoy.
