Never Forget To Return A Wai

Thai people don’t normally shake hands when greeting each other. They do the “wai”, which is the act of putting your palms together at the chest (like a prayer) and slightly bowing. If someone greets you with a wai, not responding similarly is impolite. If you are holding stuff, then a simple bow will suffice. Thai people admire foreigners who know the tradition of the “wai”. It goes to show that you have done your research. Plus it shows respect for their tradition. Don’t forget to smile as well.
