Most European cities are more tolerable of smoking, Barcelona included. But like most of the world as well, they are trying to be more proactive when it comes to restricting cigarette smoking. Since 2011, the city has taken more action in being strict about where it’s safe to smoke in public, now banning it from any type of public transport, workplaces, bars, restaurants, nightclubs, schools, and many other places. If you are a smoker, always make sure that the place you choose to light up in is actually a designated smoking area, unless you want to get caught and pay a hefty fine.
