Don’t Refer To Chicago As Chi-Town

Places have their slang nicknames, and Chicago is also called Chi-town by some south side residents and famous people like Kanye West. But it really isn’t used by anyone in the city, and definitely visitors who use it will look like a bunch of “try-hards.” Chicago’s most known and accepted nickname is “ the Windy City,” though there are quite a few such as “Second City”, “City in a Garden”, “City of the Big Shoulders”, “City by the Lake”, and “Mud City,” to name a few. The nickname Chi-town elicits different reactions from residents. There are those that use the term among themselves (as a bonding term), and there are those that do not like the term used for Chicago. So, being a visitor, it would be safer if you don’t even try using the term at all. But, if you hear it used when in a conversation with you, you decide if you want to use the nickname as well…it is a free country after all.
