It’s customary to leave your shoes at the doorstep when invited to your Norwegian friend’s house. The locals often remove their shoes before entering their home, so make sure to wear clean socks when visiting because you should only keep your shoes on if your host suggests it. Also, Norwegians are very punctual, therefore when you receive an invite, make sure not to arrive late. It’s considered very rude to show up late, and it’s considered just as ill-mannered to cancel at the very last minute. Norwegians will understand if you inform them ahead of time that you might be a few minutes late but do your best not to turn up too late to an event. Also, don’t arrive too early unless you offered to come over to help out. Furthermore, it’s recommended to bring chocolates, pastries, wine, or flowers, but don’t bring carnations, lilies, or white flowers since these are only used at funerals.
