Don’t Eat With Your Hands

Source: https://www.frenchtoday.com/

Norwegians rarely, if ever, eat with their hands. Food and snacks, even sandwiches, are eaten with utensils, with a fork in the left hand and a knife in the right hand. Unlike Americans who place their knife on the plate after slicing food then pick up their fork with the right hand, Norwegians hold on to both fork and knife while eating. Offer to help the host or hostess with preparing the meal and with cleaning up after. Once seated at the table, don’t start eating before your host does, and don’t discuss business over a friendly dinner because Norwegians like to keep their work and personal lives separate. After the host makes the first toast, offer a toast to your host or hostess during the meal, and wish them good health, happiness, and fortune. If you are the male guest of honor, you are obligated to thank the host or hostess on behalf of all the guests.
