Don’t Buy Train Tickets With Banknotes

While ticket vendors in big train stations in Oslo will accept bank bills up to 500 NOK (approximately 50 USD), ticket sellers in all the other local train stations only accept coins. They might not be able to process credit card payments as well. There are only vendors and ticket machines at the train stations, and there are no physical ticket offices where you can buy point-to-point rail passes. If you don’t want to miss the train and you don’t have enough coins, the best thing to do is to buy online at least a day ahead. If you weren’t able to get a ticket and you only have bills with you, you can choose to get on a wagon with a conductor and buy your ticket once you’re aboard the train. However, tickets purchased from the wagons are usually 25% more expensive than the ones sold online or from ticket machines and vendors.
