Even though Norway is the richest country on the planet based on the World Bank ranking, you won’t see the locals living in luxury homes or mansions or even in a brick bungalow. Instead, they love to stay in their hytte or mountain cabin. Even though there are many apartments with modern facilities in the city, the people of Norway find comfort in wood cabins that have no electricity, plumbing, or running water. They prefer lighting a fireplace and many candles, and they don’t mind using outdoor toilets and melting snow. However, there are some modern cabins in the countryside with indoor plumbing and electricity, but most residents wouldn’t want to fake the hytte tradition by staying in a modern cottage. Norwegians love spending time in their wooden holiday homes, located in the middle of nowhere, where they can hike to and from during weekends and holidays. To Norwegians, the traditional hytte is the place to be to feel koselig.
