Never Tell Them The Swedes Are Better At Winter Sports

Skiing is Norway’s national pastime. The skiing trails for Nordmarka and Bymarka forests in Oslo and Trondheim are two of many crisscross tracks that tourists can easily access from major cities. Norwegians enjoy skiing so much they even go roller skiing on roads when the snow melts during the summer. While they weren’t born with skis on their feet, they get their first pair of skis when they’re very young—and some even receive them for their baptism. Since they’re rather proud of their skill on the ice and snow, don’t tell them that Sweden is better at winter sports especially when it comes to the Olympics. Norway and Sweden are longtime rivals at the Winter Olympic Games, and it wouldn’t be a good idea to joke about them and the competition. In fact, it would be better to just not mention the Swedes altogether. The Swedes have outdone Norwegians in a lot of things, from car manufacture to the Eurovision Song Contest (Sweden has six wins while Norway has three), so leave Norway to brag about Kjetil André Aamodt, the most-decorated Olympic alpine skier.
