Don’t Bother Complaining At Restaurants

Source: https://andershusa.com/

Norwegians will never complain no matter how terrible their meal is in a restaurant. It doesn’t matter if the steak is burnt, the vegetables overcooked, or if the pig’s foot from a plate of Syltelabb is undercooked and tough. The locals will eat in silence, pay more than what the meal is worth, and maybe just not leave a tip. Perhaps this has something to do with the Jante Law where complaining might come across as claiming you’re better and more important and you’re teaching the chef and staff how to cook and correctly do their job. Still, it’s frustrating to just sit there and eat your unpleasantly dry salmon that you ordered with an expensive bottle of white wine. If you do need to voice out a complaint without making your Norwegian companion uncomfortable and wanting to hide under the table, do so nicely and respectfully. By being polite and not critical, the waiting staff and manager might even welcome your feedback and see it as an opportunity to improve their service.
