Being Careless with Gifts

It’s always great to give and receive gifts, but always be careful with what you do when you’re in Singapore. Sure, you want to give your new friend something to remember you by as you bid him or her adieu. For instance, avoid buying handkerchiefs, clocks, and flowers to your Chinese friend. They view this as bad luck. Also avoid giving leather to your Indian, Malay, or Muslim friend. And if you’re the recipient, don’t jump and down when you’re getting the present. Rather, refuse it three times before accepting it graciously. It’s also good to note that gifts are given with both hands. Avoid handing these out with your left hand.
