Just as the feet are considered lowly or dirty, a person’s head is the most sacred part of the body. Back home, you might just give someone a pat on the head if he or she does something impressive. Don’t even attempt to do that with a Singaporean. Even children aren’t exempted from this belief. If you’d like to congratulate someone or show affection in one way or another, a firm hand shake would do or even a hug (especially if that person has become familiar to you), but always stay away from the head.
