Here’s a kid chilling on his rocker and casually smoking a cigar, like a young Paul Anka enjoying a Cuban and doing it his way. Mom snapped this photo in 1958 after giving her son a bath, probably thinking it looked cool to hand her child a cigar and a lighter. Granted that Mom just set up the scene for a photo op without any intention of actually lighting the cigar since the kid was “smoking” it backward, but what kind of message was she sending here? What was it with the parents’ fixation on taking pictures of their young children smoking tobacco? It’s not cool or acceptable at all. If we could travel back in time, we’d be calling out every single thing our parents were doing wrong raising… well, us.
