Wasn’t It An Old Woman Who Lived In A Shoe?

Hips.Hearstapps

“There was an old woman who lived in a shoe.
She had so many children, she didn’t know what to do.
She gave them some broth without any bread;
Then whipped them all soundly and put them to bed.”
Pretty sure that was how the old nursery rhyme went, and it wasn’t a baby tucked inside a shoe. Though back in the 1920s, parents might’ve opted to place their baby anywhere else but in their arms. During that time, people weren’t allowed to cuddle or kiss their babies because it was believed to weaken the child’s character. If they wanted their baby to develop a backbone, they couldn’t shower him with kisses, love, and affection. So, they put him in a shoe. Tsk, tsk.
