Aaaww isn’t that lion cub so cute? It’s so cuddly and furry and soft. Until it turns into a 420-pound fully-grown man-eater with massive jaws and claws that can shred you into itsy bitsy pieces.

In 1959, this lovely family (breathing and free of injuries in this picture), raised a lion cub for two years. The mother in the photo was a veterinarian, so we could only hope she knew what she was doing when she brought home a lion and decided to keep it like a pet dog. They even took the lion out for walks. Still, it wasn’t the brightest idea to keep a dangerous wild animal at home with your family. The next time you play fetch with your pet lion, instead of bringing back a stick, it might have Dad’s leg between its teeth.
