Peace And Love… And A Very Chill Baby At A Rally

Chase the Trend

Back in the 1960s and 70s, hippies came together as a countercultural movement rejecting the principles and practices of mainstream American life. They separated from middle-class society which they saw was governed by materialism, restrictions, and repression. Instead, the advocates of love and non-violence followed the golden rules “to live and let live” and “make love, not war.”
Standing by their beliefs not to be constrained by rules and regulations, the hippie couple in this picture brought their baby to the 1972 California Marijuana Initiative rally to show their support in legalizing the recreational use of marijuana. Well, isn’t that just groovy? Mom and Dad even made sure their baby is sleeping comfortably—inside a carton box. At least they’re not drinking, just smoking pot. In the words of the great Bob Marley, “Herb is the healing of a nation, alcohol is the destruction.”
