Electroconvulsive Therapy

Source: https://www.lifespan.org/

Electroconvulsive therapy is a supplemental therapy used in depression treatment. During ECT, patients are subjected to electrical currents that are passed through the brain. These currents trigger controlled seizures that elicit the brain to secrete neurotransmitters, chemicals that help make symptoms of some mental disorders better.
ECT is an alternative option for patients who do not respond well to medication and who are contraindicated to take antidepressants, such as pregnant women and those who are prone to commit suicide.
