Originally born Issur Danielovitch, Michael Douglas was born to Russian-Jewish immigrants in Amsterdam, New York, and was very poor growing up. He worked odd jobs to pay for his acting classes, eventually joining the navy as many young men his age did at the time. His first debut was on Broadway, but he managed to get a role in the movie, The Strange Love of Martha Ivers. But it was a few years later when he played a boxer in Champion that really gave him a jumpstart in the industry. From then on, his career grew, just as his popularity for his unique voice and butt chin, while many eventually remembered him as the father of another Hollywood big shot, Michael Douglas.
