Harry Belafonte

FL Centerlit Arts

Despite having a hard start in life, Harry Belafonte fought through adversity, poverty and a difficult childhood to become the star that he is today. He sang in clubs in New York city during the popular Rat Pack years to make enough money to pay for acting classes, where he was even classmates with the likes of Marlon Brando and Bea Arthur. After having success with a recording deal in 1949, he eventually found his way into acting, which was a dream for the Caribbean-American star. At 96 years old, he’s been given many lifetime achievement awards and still lives in New York City.
