Steve McQueen was the “King of Cool,” known for his laid back screen persona, however he was often seen more as the antihero. He didn’t have an easy childhood, having been put in reform school, he eventually made it into the military, which is where he caught his big break. Although he loved acting, it was his love of race cars, motorcycles and actually racing them that also made him famous. In fact, he was a major collector and spent thousands of dollars, and time, in search of particular vehicles he wanted. Throughout his career, he was nominated for an Academy Award and Golden Globes, winning best actor for The Great Escape. Despite his early death from cancer formed from asbestos exposure, McQueen was still earning and making millions from a variety of endorsements.
