Ed Asner
As for another actor that was best known for his work on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Ed Asner has had a very long and impressive career, having been in front of the screen for around 70 years. However, before he had a start in the movies and on television, he joined the army and even acted in plays on the different bases throughout Europe. While Asner has a long list of shows, movies and accolades to his name, he was also quite active in a number of nonprofit organizations that worked with Holocaust survivors and wildlife activists, as well as being incredibly vocal about the need to support those affected by the September 11 attacks.
