During Beth’s extensive treatment, the doctors finally figured out what was wrong with Beth. She suffered from Reactive Attachment Disorder, also known as RAD. RAD is explained as a highly critical disorder that some children get after they have suffered from horrific abuse, which causes the inability to have healthy attachments to either their parents or their caregivers. And given the way that Beth was reacting to her adoptive parents and her younger brother Jonathan, it would seem that she had suffered from some incredibly monstrous abuse in her younger years.
