Denver Broncos quarterback John Elway has lost three previous Super Bowls, but at 37, he would make the greatest play of his career, the “Helicopter,” against the defending champions Green Bay Packers at Super Bowl XXXII. With the game tied at 17 and three minutes left in the third quarter, the Broncos on third-and-6 at the Packers’ 12-yard line, Elway caught the snap, scampering left and right with no receiver open. As the defense closed in, he sprinted, and at the first-down marker, launched himself into the air. Elway was hit by Packers safeties LeRoy Butler and Mark Prior, spinning him like a helicopter, but gained 8 yards for the team when he landed. They would go on to score two plays later and eventually won the Super Bowl.
