The game between the New Orleans Saints and the Atlanta Falcons marked the first time the Saints are playing at the Louisiana Superdome after hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans the previous year. In the first quarter, New Orleans safety Steve Gleason blocked the punt by Falcons punter Michael Koenen. It was then picked up by cornerback Curtis Deloatch at the end zone for the touchdown, which was the first score of the Saints for the game. The Saints would go on to win 23-3. In 2012, a statue of Gleason blocking the punt was erected outside the Superdome.
