In the closing seconds of the 1974 AFC divisional playoff game between the Miami Dolphins and the Oakland Raiders dubbed as “Super Bowl 8 1/2,” the Dolphins were leading 26-21 until the “Sea of Hands” play by the Raiders. On first-and-goal from the eight with just seconds remaining, Raiders quarterback Ken Stabler threw an 8-yard pass just as Dolphins defensive end Vern Den Herder tackled him in the legs. Dolphins linebacker Mike Kolen appeared to make a clear interception before the ball was caught by running back Clarence Davis, who fought three defenders and landed on the turf with sole possession, completing the touchdown and the win.
