Even if you plan to stay a long time, it is best not to bring plenty and heavy luggage to Cuba. First of all, Havana’s airport is like the rest of Cuba, outdated. They do not have automatic baggage claim areas. Everything is brought down from the plane manually so this may set you back a couple of hours. Seasoned travellers don’t bother to check-in their luggage. They take a carry-on bag and maybe a large duffel bag on the plane. It not only saves you time upon disembarking, but also makes it easier to carry around to your accommodations. Not all hotels have elevators. It is no joke to carry heavy, bulky luggage up several flights of stairs. You can always have your clothes washed, or even buy cheap clothing around.
