Don’t Think Catcalling is Prohibited

Females, expect the worst. Cubans while friendly and hospitable, are an animated lot. One of the downsides is catcalling. It is normal in Cuban culture. Most female tourists get shocked when they are whistled at. Females will also get yelled at, stared at, and even propositioned by some men. Don’t think these are drunks (although some may be), it is just part of their culture. They don’t really mean any disrespect, it is more of a weird way of showing appreciation. Actually, if you get whistled at, take it appreciatively. It means there is something about you worth being whistled at. Just smile and move on. Enjoy the place.
