Never Eat In Cheap Joints

Especially if you don’t see many people (locals as well as tourists) around. Cubans don’t really have a cuisine to brag about due to the many restrictions. There are really good food items though, but this is best in popular restaurants. Cheap food stalls, while they may be cheap, may not be clean. Or use local products with low quality. Particularly minced meat. Any slimy meat can be washed then grinded to hide the fact that it is not meant for consumption. Once cooked, you won’t be able to tell the difference. But your stomach will. There are basically two types of restaurants. State-run and privately owned. Locals know that state-run eateries don’t care about the quality of their food. They don’t really need the profits, as they are supported by the government. So even locals who can afford to eat out choose to go to privately owned restaurants. You should too.
