Do Not Over Purchase Cigars And Alcohol

Cuba is known for their exquisite cigars and fine rhum. Even President Kennedy stocked up with 1,200 Cuban cigars before he imposed the 1962 embargo. Well tourists can purchase cigars and alcohol, but can only bring back a certain amount. Canadians for example, can bring back 20 duty-free Cuban cigars without any documentation. Or up to 50 if sealed in a box and with receipts. Any more, they will be charged import duties. Other nationalities have similar allotments, always check with your customs departments. With Americans, it is quite different. It is not Cuba imposing the restrictions, it is America. American citizens residing in the US can only bring back legally $100 worth of tobacco and and/or alcohol. This is about a few cigars and a bottle of Havana Club rhum. Hopefully the US will ease restrictions, and Americans travelling to Cuba will have more privileges.
