While Cubans are normally friendly, some over-eager locals may have more in mind than helping you. If somebody goes up to you offering to take you around, or giving you advice, they will expect to get paid for their help. Tourists look like they always have money. Well, more than most locals anyway. So people will try to get whatever they can from tourists. And don’t think you can escape from paying. Some of these scammers belong to gangs. Just politely refuse and move on. If you really need help with something, look for a decent looking local, there are bound to be some around.
