Some travellers prefer the ambience of renting a house (particularly near the beach) as compared to a hotel or hostel. Maybe it is due to budget constraints. The Casa is basically a bed and breakfast. But foreigners can only stay in the casas that have a blue sign. The orange ones are strictly for Cubans. Staying in one can get you and the owner in trouble with authorities. Rules are rules, follow them especially in Cuba. But it is still best to book your accommodations in advance. Don’t take the chance, and end up without a place to stay.
