Cuba seems to be trapped in the 1950’s era. Visitors feel the nostalgia simply with the abundance of US 1950s vehicles being used. Some even operate as taxi cabs, or tour guides. Taxis that are licensed by the government have meters, and they are supposed to use them. There are also privately licensed taxis without meters, you have to negotiate the fare before riding. There are also the funny looking three-wheeled yellow coco taxis and pedal cabs for short distances. But beware the unlicensed taxis. Some may offer cheaper rates, but it is illegal to ride them. You may be setting yourself up for a scam or robbery.
