It is common to see locals passing around a common glass of rum. Each one sips a little, then passes it on to the next person. While this may not seem sanitary, it is a custom you should never criticize. If you are invited to sip from the glass, do not turn it down. Cubans will surely take offense. They may think you believe yourself to be too good to drink with them simple people. Don’t even bother trying to explain. Just take it and drink a sip, then pass it on.
