Don’t Assume An Iraqi Kurdistan Visa Is Valid Everywhere Else In Iraq

It is important to remember that even if you’ve successfully acquired a valid visa to Iraqi Kurdistan, an autonomous region in the northern parts of Iraq, you cannot use that same visa to visit Arab Iraq or to enter actual Iraq. If you’re only planning to travel to the Kurdistan region, you don’t have to go through the challenging and laborious process to secure a visa for Iraq since you can easily obtain a Kurdistan visa on arrival at the Erbil International Airport or any of the other airports in Iraqi Kurdistan. However, that visa is not valid anywhere else in Iraq, including Baghdad, the capital city of Iraq, and Basra, the main port of Iraq where the fictional hero Sinbad the Sailor journeyed. Please note that even though Mosul is located in northern Iraq, you still cannot enter the major city with a Kurdistan visa.
