Don’t Confuse Kurds With Arabs

Source: https://trtworld.com

Even though Kurds live in northern Iraq, they are a different nation and ethnicity. Never mistake Kurds for Arabs or even compare them with Arabs because they won’t appreciate it. Kurdistan spans across four countries, namely Syria, Turkey, Iran, and Iraq, with the last one being an autonomous region. While Kurds constitute roughly 17% of Iraq’s population, with hundreds of thousands residing in Baghdad, Mosul, and southern Iraq, they resemble Persians more than Arabs. Even with their language, Kurdish is more similar to Persian than Arabic. Many Kurds don’t like Arabs for political reasons. In Syria, Kurds have been suppressed and denied their basic rights, with their lands being confiscated and redistributed to Arabs in an attempt to convert Kurdish regions into Arabic. Even in the 1970s, Arabs settled in oil-rich Kurdish areas and forced Kurds to relocate.
