It’s a great way to take photos, shoot videos, and document your travel experience using a drone. However, it’s illegal to fly a drone, or even bring one, over Iraq. Iraq is one of 18 countries that ban the use of drones. Even in Iraqi Kurdistan, your drone will not only be confiscated at customs, but you can get arrested for carrying a drone even without flying it. One traveler who managed to bring in a drone by keeping it in his backpack was brought to a military base and interrogated for hours. Apparently, drones are used by ISIS terrorists to spy, and if you are caught with one, it’s only reasonable for authorities to make sure that you are not a terrorist spy surveying military operations, making propaganda videos, or flying a weaponized drone carrying grenades.
