In a fortuitous turn of events in the summer after school, Elin was working in Champagne, a clothing boutique in Stockholm when a shopper named Mia Parnevik came in. It turned out that she is the wife of Jesper Parnevik, a Swedish professional golfer with the nickname “Spaceman” on the tour. Spaceman was born in Botkyrka, Sweden, but moved to Palm Beach, Florida on a golf scholarship while in junior college. While engaging the shopper in a conversation, Elin learned that they were looking for a nanny, preferably Swedish. The Parneviks had three children at the time: Peg, Penny, and Pebble. After being offered the job, Elin moved to the U.S. with the couple, with the intention of going back to Sweden after a year to pursue her study in psychology.
