Edamame

This is the usual Japanese pub grub similar to peanuts and popcorn in the US. These are bright green, immature soybeans, harvested before the beans have hardened. They are normally served in their pods after being blanched and lightly salted. Most Izakaya pubs in Japan enjoy freshly prepared edamame. These are normally served complimentary. They have a natural, delicious “umami” flavor that go great with light salt seasoning. Plus they have a lot of health benefits, being high in protein, calcium, and iron. So healthy and delicious. Great with Japanese beer or sake.
