Okay, there are limited DIY traps to capture fruit flies. Whichever version you use will help you get rid of the pesky pests. But to help you further, you need to discourage them from invading your home. Fruit flies can’t stand basil. It’s like garlic to a vampire (so we are told). The intense scent acts as an irritant to the fruit fly. One whiff of the aroma will scare them away. Fruit flies have a very powerful sense of smell, use this to your advantage. Place them on your kitchen sink in a bowl, or scatter some leaves in your fruit bowl. Better if you have a basil plant growing in a pot, or around your house. It will act as a deterrent to fruit flies.
