Buying fruits and vegetables in your grocery or market may unwittingly bring home fruit flies with you. These are in the form of eggs on the produce. Washing them once you get home will help remove any eggs deposited on the produce. Remember to refrigerate soon after, to help delay the process of degradation. Sticky substances on your fruits will surely attract fruit flies. Rinsing them in water will remove the sticky substance and keep your fruits clean from eggs and other microbes. Remember also not to keep damp rags or kitchen towels. This is another breeding ground for fruit flies.
